I am looking for info on my great grandfather, Moses L. Patterson who married Jane E. Copeland on November 11, 1872 in Jasper County, Missouri.  He was Cherokee indian and may have been adopted by a family.  He was from Illinois and Jane Copeland was born in Arkansas.  Also, I have been able to find a copy of their marriage license on a database on Ancestry.com.  They had a daughter, Lula May Patterson, who was my father's mother and who married William Walter Sanders (my grandfather).  My grandmother's (Lula May Patterson) death certificate shows Moses Patterson as her father and her mother's name was Jane E. Copeland. The Missouri State Archives Birth and Death Records Database shows that a male child was born to them on October 25, 1883 in Dade County, Missouri, that it was their 4th child, and that the nationality of the father was Cherokee.  I know that my grandmother, Lula May (Sanders) Patterson was part Cherokee Indian.  I also believe (from Ancestry.com's military service database) that Moses Patterson served in the Civil War.
