Patterson Family

The only Patterson that I currently know of was William Peter Patterson (Born: Dec. 2, 1855 - Died: November 1940, Muskegon, Michigan). He was living in Tilbury, Ontario, Canada around the years of 1882-1884. William Patterson was the great nephew of Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte, who was married to Napoleon Bonaparte's brother, Jerome. William Peter Patterson married Arvella Teasdale in Tilbury, Canada between the years of 1882-1884. From Tilbury, they moved to Muskegon, Michigan. Arvella had two sons from her first husband, Henry Frank Beneau and John Beneau. William Patterson adopted the two boys and they took on the Patterson last name.

Includes NotesNotes for Emory Ewen Patterson:
Emory Ewen Patterson I was my Great-Grandfather. He is part of the reason that I have been inspired to put together my family tree. You would have had to know him to understand him. He had this great laugh that always started out like a cough, and once you got him going he wouldn't stop. I was fortunate to know my great-grandfather fairly well. We bought a summer home in Lavalle, Wisconsin which was very close to Grandpa Emory who was in Baraboo. We spent many weekends up at our second home just so that we could be close to him and see him more. He sure was full of spit and fire. Everyone that knew my Grandpa loved him. He was a wild one, as were many of the Patterson boys. The times spent with him at our summer home I will never forget. Those times that my immediate family shared with him are memories I will never let go. Our family was so close and prospered from having each other around. I always remember my Grandpa Emory as being a mentor to my father. My dad always wanted to make my Grandpa proud of him and loved his close relationship with him. My father did not just share a name with him, being Emory Ewen Patterson III, I truly beleive that my father was a great man at one time because of him. My Grandpa Emory loved his beer and chocolate. Even when the doctors told him he couldn't have it, my dad would sneak it to him. He drove a car and had a license until the time that he died. I know that he always wanted to make it to his 90th birthday and it was unfortunate that he didn't. Grandpa Emory and His second wife, Marian, would come to visit us all of the time on the weekends at our home on Lake Redstone. I can even remember Grandpa going in the boat for a boat ride with my dad and he loved it. My Grandpa always seemed to be a very tough man but yet so gentle. He was always so loving to us kids and I could tell that he loved the fact that he was able to spend the weekends with us.

The weekend that Grandpa died I beleive it was on a Thursday. He was watching Love Connection and got up from his chair and stopped breathing. Marian called 911 and he was already gone when they got there. Grandpa died peacefully and while watching one of his favorite shows. We got the call between 9-10PM that night. My dad threw on his clothes and raced to the hospital to be with Grandpa. Dad stayed with him all night even though he had already passed. The next day, my mom told us kids and we went to school for half the day. I was in high school and three of my girlfriends were looking forward to seeing my Grandpa that weekend as they often did. Everyone was devastated by the news. The fact that Grandpa went peacefully and I knew that he would be reunited with his true love, his first wife, Katherine, was a calming feeling for me. I did not beleive that Grandpa had passed and reality did not hit me until I walked away from his coffin and almost collapsed. I remember walking away from everyone and not beleiving that this happened. I kept saying to my mom, it doesn't feel real, he's supposed to come to our house for dinner tomorrow. This can't be real. I pulled my self together, mom kept telling us that we had to be strong for my Dad, and that's what I thought that I was doing. I remember the point that I was not ready to go was when his casket was above the burial place. That was the point that I knew it was over, I would never see my grandpa again.

My brother, Emory Ewen Patterson IV was very young when Grandpa passed. I truly wish that he was around so that my brother would know the kind of person he was and want to grow up to be just like him.

My Grandpa was a GREAT Grandpa.

Katherine and Ethel would go to local dances in which boys would buy a ticket to dance with them. Emory Ewen Patterson took notice of Katherine and walked up to her with his ticket. Emory grew very fond of Katherine and would visit her often and attend these dances to see her. Katherine made herself out to be older around 18, but she was only 15. Emory and Katherine wanted to marry and they did with the approval of her mother, Victoria, and the help of her sister, Ethel.
